【概述】

膨润土(Bentonite)按译音,是以蒙脱石为主的含水粘土矿,蒙脱石的化学成分为:（Al2,Mg3）[Si4O10][OH]2•nH2O,由于它具有特殊的性质。如:膨润性、粘结性、吸附性、催化性、触变性、悬浮性以及阳离子交换性等等,所以广泛用于各个工业领域。膨润土是以蒙脱石为主要矿物成分的非金属矿产，故具有较好的离子交换性。国外已在工农业生产24领域100多个部门中应用,有300多个产品,因而人们称之为“万能土”。

【理化性质】

膨润土也叫斑脱岩或膨土岩。其实膨润土的主要矿物成分是蒙脱石，含量在85-90%，膨润土的一些性质也都是由蒙脱石所决定的。蒙脱石可呈各种颜色如黄绿、黄白、灰、白色等等。可以成致密块状，也可为松散的土状，用手指搓磨时有滑感，小块体加水后体积胀大数倍至20-30倍，在水中呈悬浮状，水少时呈糊状。蒙脱石的性质和它的化学成分和内部结构有关。

膨润土具有很强的吸湿性，能吸附相当于自身体积8一20倍的水而膨胀至30倍;在水介质中能分散呈胶体悬浮液，并具有一定的粘滞性、触变性和润滑性，它和泥沙等的掺和物具有可塑性和粘结性，有较强的阳离子交换能力和吸附能力。

【分类】

膨润土的分类：膨润土的层间阳离子种类决定膨润土的类型，层间阳离子为Na+时称钠基膨润土;层间阳离子为Ca+时称钙基膨润土;层间阳离子为H+时称氢基膨润土(活性白土);层间阳离子为有机阳离子时称有机膨润土。

【用途】

膨润土（蒙脱石）由于有良好的物理化学性能，素有“万能”粘土之称，可做粘结剂、悬浮剂、触变剂、稳定剂、净化脱色剂、充填料、饲料、催化剂等，广泛用于农业、轻工业及化妆品、药品等领域，所以蒙脱石是一种用途广泛的天然矿物材料。蒙脱石有吸附性和阳离子交换性能，可用于除去石油的毒素、汽油和煤油的净化、废水处理；由于有很好的吸水膨胀性能以及分散和悬浮及造浆性，因此用于钻井泥浆、阻燃（悬浮灭火）；还可在造纸工业中做填料，可优化涂料的性能如附着力、遮盖力、耐水性、耐洗刷性等；由于有很好的粘结力，可代替淀粉用于纺织工业中的纱线上浆既节粮，又不起毛，浆后还不发出异味。

【Physical and Chemical Properties】

Bentonite is also known as bentonite rock or swelling soil rock. In fact, the main mineral component of bentonite is montmorillonite whose content is 85-90%. Some properties of bentonite are also determined by the montmorillonite. Montmorillonite can be presented a variety of colors such as yellow-green, yellow-white, gray, white and so on. It can present a dense block, but also loose earth sometimes, when you rub it with your fingers, it slips. By adding water to the smaller volume, the size can be swelled 20-30 times. The nature of montmorillonite has a bearing on its chemical composition and internal structure.

Bentonite has strong moisture absorption and can absorb the equivalent of 20 times its own volume water and swells to 30 times; it disperses as colloidal suspensions in water medium with a certain viscosity, thixotropy, and lubrication. The admixture of bentonite and silt has plasticity, adhesion character, stronger cation exchange capacity and adsorption capacity.

Montmorillonite can be used to make binder, suspending agent, thixotropic agent, stabilizer, purification bleaching agent, filling material, feed, and catalyst and so on; it is widely used in agriculture, light industry and cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and other areas. Due to its cation exchange properties and adsorption, it also used to remove the toxin in oil, purify gasoline and kerosene and deal with waste water; because of its water absorption and swelling properties, dispersion and suspension and mud making capacity, therefore, it can be used for drilling mud and fire-retardant, as filler in the paper making industry.
